Keeping a small team has allowed us to know our customers first-hand and to better advise them on their personal preferences. Our goal is to help people discover the delights of the sea and to enjoy quality food.
A bit of history
In 2012, Manuel Gonsalves acquired, along with his father, his first fish market in Montreal. Several years later, having accumulated extensive experience, a rising passion and many satisfied customers to show for, he discovered a gem of a fish shop for sale in La Prairie. Formerly known as Le Poisson Volant and managed by native Gaspesians; Manuel fell in love with the place and decided to make it his new project.
Since its opening in 2020, L’Éperlan fish market holds true to its mission of exceeding the high standards set by its predecessors.
Why this name?
Smelt, English for Éperlan, is a small sea fish measuring between 10 and 20 cm belonging to the family of salmons and is sought in estuaries and near the coasts. Flaunting a lovely silvery colored skin, its white flesh offers delectable taste and can be prepared in many ways. Smelt is a magnificent but little-known Quebec product with many nutritional benefits. By choosing this name, we aspire to make people value and appreciate this beautiful product.
